About The Brink
IT IS OFFICIAL: free tickets to the roller-coaster called “the brink” will cease to be sold after june first. it has been a great ride! thanks for six years, missoula!
When the Brink opened in March 2010, it purposefully wanted to be unclear of its mission, to allow space and time to discover itself, therefore, this is all that was explained:
“The Brink refuses to be narrowly defined and hopes to evolve and change as it grows. The Brink, open to all media, exhibits art that is playful yet serious, deliberate and fresh, conceptual, fearless, and even experimental.”
NOW, almost five years later, as we continue to experiment and evolve, some desires have clarified. Whether we are successful each month or not is always the gamble, but we do TRY to surprise, shock, confuse, entertain and provoke thought. If we had to label the type of art we strive to exhibit, it would be conceptual art, defined best by Sol LeWitt: “In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.”
As our future unfolds, we hope to schedule more installations, performance art, poetry, dance, special event nights, etc., THEREFORE we encourage the submissions of concrete proposals that can help us continue to push the boundaries….
The Brink thanks you over and over for your continued support and response to our risks and endeavors!
